Loan Forgiveness

Over 50% of students graduate from college with at least some debt in the form of student loans. But many are not aware of the number of programs that will forgive (repay all or part of) a student's loan. The number of programs like this is substantial—and growing.

Student loan forgiveness programs encourage recent graduates to work in areas where their professional contributions are desperately needed. Some of the most common fields where graduates can find this help in repaying loans are law enforcement, medicine, and teaching. In addition, some colleges even promise loan forgiveness to students who maintain a certain level of academic standing by the time they graduate! Federal Perkins loans have more options for forgiveness than do Federal Stafford loans, but borrowers are encouraged to investigate options for both types of loans after graduation.
